BESSEY

Independent by Tradition

The BESSEY Group has maintained its independence as a family-owned company since 1889. This allows strategy and organisation to be coordinated in a direct and clear manner. For the workforce and all stakeholders, this means consistency and preservation of values – all decisions are sustainable and geared towards long-term success. The current shareholders are descendants of company founder Max Bessey. Today, BESSEY sees itself as a family in which the shareholders, management and workforce act as a team. This independent approach still defines BESSEY today and secures the company’s unique market position.

“To stop improving is to stop being good.“ The motto of company founder Max Bessey remains true today, as it will in the future, and is the guiding principle to everything that the company does.

The picture shows a section of the 25-strong BESSEY workforce from 1913. The boss, Karl Bessey, is sitting at the table on the bottom left.

The Neverending Road to Success

Since Eugen Mayer overtook the reins of the company in 1926, the strength of BESSEY innovation has been underlined by the granting of numerous patents. In 1979, with the takeover of Diener Werkzeugfabrik GmbH, a company rich in tradition, BESSEY established its cutting technology unit with the already popular Erdi snips.

Patents granted in 1936 for a new type of malleable cast iron screw clamp, marking the start of clamping tool production.

In 2004 BESSEY & Sohn was spun into BESSEY Tool, handling the clamping and cutting technology areas, and BESSEY Präzisionsstahl, a leading German producer-independent and industry-independent supplier of high-quality bright and stainless steels. This unique positioning of BESSEY as a producer of tools and precision steels ensures significant advantages in terms of quality. It allows BESSEY Tool to procure its rails and spindles directly from the in-house drawing plant, giving it precise knowledge of the steel quality that is going into particularly components which are subjected to particularly high stresses. This is because bright steels are produced and tested at BESSEY Precision Steel with consistently high quality and the utmost precision, in cutting-edge facilities.

CHIRON Group

Automotive, Medical Technology, Aerospace, Precision Technology, Tool Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering: The CHIRON Group machining centers ensure precise, productive, and flexible machining in these industries. This expertise is no accident, but the result of continuity in mechanical engineering, and a strong change in technology and product range.

A success story

Change is the formative principle; it is the common thread that has continued to run through the company since 1921 and is firmly woven into the DNA of the CHIRON Group. The company has been willing to change to meet the demands of the customers and markets, to quickly recognize potential, and to systematically exploit it.

Where it all began: Surgical equipment

The foundation of the “Fabriken für feinmechanische Apparate und chirurgische Instrumente GmbH” – a precision appliance and surgical instrument manufacturing company, by Otto Staebler and Gottfried Schnell in 1921, was made possible by the invention of “stainless steel” in 1912. The two founders were quick to recognize the huge potential of this revolutionary material, and went on to produce new, innovative instruments: precise, extremely sharp, stable, and easy to sterilize. By the end of the 1930s, the product range was already comprised of around 30,000 medical technology products. CHIRON, together with other companies, established Tuttlingen’s reputation as the “global center of medical technology”.

New perspective: Machining centers

CHIRON presented its first feed units for metalworking as early as 1958, and then further developed these units into specialized machines for machining processes. Based on its knowledge of the specific requirements for customers, the company created the perfect, individually-tailored solution: Machine components, mechanisms, workbenches, and tools were adjusted so that high volumes could be manufactured precisely and efficiently. You could say that these individual machining units mark the beginning of the turnkey competence of CHIRON, and now, the CHIRON Group.

A success story with longevity

With its innovative products and services, the CHIRON Group now facilitates precise, productive, and flexible machining in many different industries. Together, all employees are pursuing one goal: Remaining the benchmark for quality, technology, and service for all customers around the world and building on their advantage. One thing remains as important for future positive development as it ever has been: The passion for precision.

DUEMMEL Paul

The origin of the carbide tool factory Paul Dümmel GmbH goes back four generations.

Paul Dümmel Werkzeugfabrik GmbH is a medium-sized company that is now in its third and fourth generation of family management. In the fast-growing industry segment of miniature machining, they hold a clear leading position among the carbide tool manufacturers. The company was founded in 1928 as a mechanical workshop. For multiple decades the metal cutting tools for the metalworking industry have been their focus – particularly development and manufacturing for the main application areas of turning and milling. This extensive experience gives DUEMMEL an important competitive advantage, from which their customers also profit.

The development and production of high-quality solid carbide metal cutting tools for metal working applications such as turning and milling has been one of their priorities for over 70 years. DUEMMEL are one of the leading carbide tool manufacturers in the rapidly growing industrial segment of miniature applications. They regard customers as partners – not just when it comes to selling, but already during the development and manufacture of their tools. Based on this attitude DUEMMEL are a long termed productivity partner to their customers. Together with DUEMMEL you have the ability to optimize machining and increase productivity.

“The biggest in small things”: This was and is their claim.
